A talk by historian Jianglin Li

In March 1959, a series of events marked the turning point of Tibetan history. In the official version of the Chinese government, the Lhasa Event has been described as a "pre‐arranged rebellion attempting to split the motherland". However, in the past 52 years, few detail were released to support the official conclusion.

What really happened in March 1959? Why did Tibetans surround the summer palace? Why the "Lhasa Event" developed into "Battle of Lhasa"? What's the casualty from both side? What is the aftermath? Jianglin Li historian and author of 1959 Lhasa! will discuss details of her research on the March 1959 Lhasa events.
